Getting The Most From Your Family Travel Insurance

Going on holiday this year? To make sure you have the best time, you'll need to make sure you have everything you need for a great time away - and that includes buying your family travel insurance before you go. Family travel insurance might seem a bit more complicated than insurance that covers just one person, but with the help of the various companies available that provide quotes for every kind of trip you could think of, you'll soon find that family travel insurance isn't that hard to book after all.

The Perks Of Being A Family

You would be forgiven for thinking that if there are five of you in total - let's say two adults and three kids - you will have to pay for family travel insurance that covers five people. But in actual fact this is not true. Many companies will provide free family travel insurance cover for the children. Some agree to cover two children for every adult who travels and pays for their own family travel insurance.

Different companies will have different policies on what is included within their family travel insurance cover and what isn't. If any member of your family has a pre-existing condition you should inform the company at the time of taking out the cover. If you don't and something happens while you are away on holiday, you may well find you are not covered for any medical costs that you incur. You won't necessarily be charged any extra for declaring a pre-existing condition - it's just to ensure they know about it and it is stated on the insurance document.

Is Annual Cover Worth It?

As you would expect, annual family travel insurance cover will cost you more than purchasing cover for a single trip. The question is, is it advisable to buy insurance for a longer period?

If you are intending to go on more than one vacation during the next year, then you will almost certainly make savings if you buy a policy which will cover the whole period. As always though, make sure you compare both single trip and annual policies from several sources to see which would be the most cost effective.

If you do get annual cover, make sure it will cover you and your family for trips both inside and outside your own country. So long as you have all the bases covered, you won't go far wrong when buying your family travel insurance.
