Signs and Symptoms of Black Mold

Black mold is a toxic infestation that can become very expensive to vanquish if it has been allowed to spread. Home insurance often does not cover mold damage and this combined with the fact that black mold can cause symptoms of allergic reactions in a lot of people; it is wise to prevent the onslaught of black mold by being aware of the symptoms and signs. Identifying symptoms of black mold is often achieved by sending a sample to a laboratory. Unknown leaks or even small amounts of undisturbed water or damp patches in the home can cause symptoms of black mold. If a resident suffers from allergy symptoms or notices a smell of mildew, they should most certainly look for black mold around the home.

Condensation and stained walls can be signs that black mold is present in the home; this can especially happen if there are many plants in the home or if there is another reason why there could be a lot of moisture in the air. Warped wood and cracked or peeling paint can also be signs that water has already gotten under and next to the wall. These can be some of the more obvious symptoms that black mold can or has occurred.

Controlling black mold symptoms can include using fans in humid parts of the home and using mold killing cleaners in damp or humid areas in the home. Using wall paint that contains mold inhibitors may be a good solution and replace damp carpets with tiles or linoleum may also be necessary. Black mold symptoms and signs can appear when there are areas of high humidity in the home and the spores of black mold can easily travel through air conditioning and heating systems. Adding a filter to these systems can alleviate this problem as can drying up any damp areas in the home

Symptoms of Black Mold Allergies

Black mold can cause severe allergy symptoms in residents of an infested home. Symptoms of black mold allergies can include a bad cough, sneezing, congestion, eye watering and a runny nose. Sinus headaches, nose bleeds, shortness of breath, difficulty breathing and a bad skin rash can also be symptoms of a black mold allergy. It can occur in homes where foam board has been used as wall insulation. This is because there is no space to let the walls breathe and as a result, ideal conditions are created for black mold to grow.
